Chiropractic Care

Diversified

Diversified is the most commonly used technique by chiropractors.  The goal of the diversified adjustment is to restore proper motion and alignment to a spinal joint segment to help alleviate joint pain and increase function.  This is achieved by applying the hand to a joint while delivering a percise and skilled movement to that area.

Activator

Activator technique was created as an alternative low force technique compared to diversified manual adjusting of the spine or any joint in the body.  The activator is a handheld spring-loaded device that delivers a specific impulse to the structure.  The goal, like other chiropractic techniques is to induce motion in the joint without causing injury.

Thompson

Thompson technique was founded over 50 years ago by Dr. J. Clay Thompson.  Thompson didn’t begin his career as a chiropractor, but instead a mechanical engineer.  His first chiropractic table had a loose screw in the head piece which caused it to drop after an adjustment was delivered.  When he replaced the table patients were not experiencing the same beneficial results as they were before.  Thompsons clinical experience combined with his education in mechanical engineering lead to Dr. Thompson inventing the first chiropractic drop piece.
Adjusting with drop pieces utilize Newton’s first law of motion and allow an adjustment to be delivered with less force.

Additional Care

Laser

Treatment involves the use of low-level lasers or light-emitting diodes to alter cellular function.  Treatment is applied directly over the site of injury, a muscle insertion, tender or trigger points, nerves roots or acupuncture points.  To name a few laser has been shown to be effective in treating and reducing pain in people suffering from rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, acute and chronic neck pain, tendinopathy, headaches, and chronic joint disorders.

Inferential Current (IFC)

Usually applied through suction cups or sticky pads current is run though the injured structure affecting pain pathways.  The current creates a massaging effect over the affected area at periodic intervals.  This helps stimulate endorphins (the bodies natural pain relievers) relaxing soft tissue structures and promoting healing.  This periodic current also causes the muscle to contract creating a pumping action clearing inflammation from the injured body part.  IFC can help treat muscle spasms and strains.

Taping

Athletic taping can help protect your muscles and joints by preventing unnessessary motion.  The use of elastic tape can help assist in muscle facilitation post injury, and decrease muscle spasms.  Elastic tape gives the body proprioceptive input to remind the body to maintain certain positions and stay away from harmful positions.  This elastic taping can be especially beneficial for postural training and rehabilitation.  It has also been shown effective in various conditions from patellofemoral pain syndromes to carpal tunnel.
